Khagaria, Bihar — June 2025:
The Bihar government has launched a transformative infrastructure project with the construction of State Highway 95 (SH-95), which will span 75 kilometers from Mansi-Badla Ghat in Khagaria district to Hardi Chaughara in Supaul, passing through Saharsa. The project, under the supervision of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), is progressing at a war footing and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
🚧 Project Overview
- Highway Name: State Highway-95 (SH-95)
- Length: 75 kilometers
- Estimated Cost: ₹850 crore
- Completion Deadline: End of 2027
- Executing Authority: Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL)
📍 Route Details
- Start Point: Mansi-Badla Ghat, Khagaria
- End Point: Hardi Chaughara, Supaul
- Key Stop: Saharsa (via Katyani Asthan near Dhamhara Ghat railway station)
- Parallel Corridor: Mansi–Saharsa section of the East Central Railway (ECR)
🏞 Cultural and Regional Significance
- The route passes through Katyani Asthan, a prominent religious site known for the worship of Maa Katyani.
- Thousands of pilgrims visit this area annually, and the new road is expected to significantly ease travel for them.
- Dhamhara Ghat railway station, located nearby, connects this religious hub to broader regions, and the road will offer an alternate, faster route.
🧭 Areas to Benefit
The highway will serve the diara region — low-lying, flood-prone zones between river branches — by providing robust and elevated road connectivity.
Beneficiary Districts:
- Khagaria
- Saharsa
- Madhepura
- Supaul
These areas often face isolation during monsoon seasons. The SH-95 will act as a lifeline, offering year-round access and opening new opportunities for trade, education, health, and transport.
🛠 Engineering Features
- Four major bridges over key rivers, ensuring uninterrupted passage during monsoons.
- Five Road Over Bridges (ROBs) to ensure smooth crossing over railway lines and avoid traffic bottlenecks.
- 52 culverts for proper water drainage and flood resistance, ensuring durability and safety.
🙌 Community Response
- Local residents and leaders have expressed strong support.
- Prem Kumar Yaswant, a social activist from Khutiya village in Mansi block, said:
"This highway will not only enhance access to Maa Katyani temple but also uplift the livelihoods of thousands living in remote riverine areas."
- The road will offer a critical alternative to the railway line, which often gets disrupted during floods or heavy rains.
